There’s a difference between the way other people see us – “He deserves
our help … ” (Luke 7:4-5) – and the way we see ourselves – “I don’t
deserve you to come into my house” (Luke 7:6). In the searchlight of
God’s holy Word, we are taken more deeply into ourselves – seeing our
sin as it really is. Jesus doesn’t save us because we deserve to be
saved. He saves us by His grace. He looks at us, sees what we’re really
like, and keeps on loving us. This is love, real love, the greatest love
of all.
