Praying Through God’s Word: Jude

“Certain men whose condemnation was written long ago have secretly slipped in among you … godless men … ” (Jude 4). What are we to do when this happens? Your Word tells us: “Keep yourselves in the love of God” (Jude 21). How are we to do this when the pull toward evil seems to be getting stronger all the time? There is something we must never forget: You, Lord, are “able to keep us from falling” (Jude 24).

Faith, Holiness, Worship And Witness

"Come to him ... be yourselves built into a spiritual house" (1 Peter 2:4-5). This speaks to us of personal conversion and life in fellowship with God's people. The life of holiness, to which we are called, is to be lived in fellowship with God's people. We are to encourage one another to live a godly life. Our growth in grace is strengthened as we worship the Lord together.  At the heart of our life together, there is worship - and there must also be witness.    (1) "Come to him" - This is the way of entering God's kingdom. Have you come to Christ and entered  God's kingdom? Let this question really reach your heart today. Be sure to answer it with  faith - not an empty profession of faith, but a real, living faith.   (2) Once you have come to him, you are to be built into a spiritual house.  * God has given us so much - "His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his o...

The Word of the Lord came to me ...

Zechariah 5:1-8:23; Jude 1-25; Psalm 139:17-24  Again and again, in Zechariah, we find the phrase, “the Word of the Lord (Almighty) came to me” (Zechariah 6:9; Zechariah 7;1,4,8). Another recurring phrase, with similar meaning, is “This is what the Lord (Almighty) says” (Zechariah 6:12; Zechariah 8:3,4,6,7,9,14,20,23). The Word of revelation – This is the basis of our faith. It’s God speaking His Word to us. His Word is a Word of salvation (Zechariah 8:7-8). This salvation is not only for the Jews. It is for “countries of the east and the west” (Z echariah 8:7). It is for “men from all languages and nations” (Zechariah 8:23). This “salvation we share” (Jude 3), a salvation which goes from nation to nation, from generation to generation, is to be preserved by God’s people “contending for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints” (Jude 3). In today’s world, many proudly dismiss the whole idea of divine revelation. The Lord’s people must not be deceived. Over against ...

Good News for this generation

"God, who at various times and  in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,  2  has in these last days spoken to us by  His  Son ... " (Hebrews 1:1-2). This is more than the prophets speaking about God. This is God, speaking through the prophets. The prophets looked forward to Jesus, God's beloved Son. God speaks to us through Jesus. "I am the good shepherd; and   I know My  sheep, and   am known by My own.   15  As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father;   and I lay down My life for the sheep.   16  And   other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice;   and there will be one flock  and  one shepherd" (John 10:14-16). Jesus, the Good Shepherd, tells us that his sheep will hear his voice. How are we to hear his voice? How are we to listen to him? We listen to him when we pay attention to his words. The...
