Much of what we read in Isaiah 16 – 18 concerns divine judgment on the
disobedient – Moab – chapter 16, Damascus and Israel – chapter 17, Sudan
– chapter 18. In the face of God’s holy judgment upon sin, we must
never forget that “He is the God of our salvation, our Rock, our
Stronghold” (Isaiah 17:10). God does not wish to pass judgment upon us.
He calls us to Himself, that He may be gracious to us (2 Peter 3:9; John
3:17). This is the love of God. His love is everlasting. He reaches out
to us, in love, so that we, loving Him, might rejoice in the fact that
we are His beloved – “loved with everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3).
God's Word is "a lamp to our feet and a light to our path." He has "wondrous things" to teach us as we pray "Open my eyes that I may see" (Psalm 119:105, 18, 11). "May God's blessing surround you each day, as you trust Him and walk in His way. May His presence within guard and keep you from sin, go in peace, go in joy, go in love." "Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to Your Name give glory, because of Your mercy and Your truth" (Psalm 115:1).
