Less about ourselves - and more about Jesus

"He (Jesus) must become greater; I (John the Baptist) must become less" (John 3:30).
There is no comparison between John the Baptist and Jesus the Saviour. Jesus is so much greater than John. Pointing away from himself to Jesus - this is what John was sent to do. He was not to seek glory for himself. He was to give the glory to Jesus. Jesus was John's Lord - and He's our Lord. Like John, we are called to centre our lives on Jesus - and to call on others to make Jesus the chief focus of attention of our lives. John was a prophet - a man, sent by God to preach the Word of God to many people. Jesus came to bring salvation. He is more than a prophet. He is our Saviour. This is what John said about Jesus - "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29). We thank God for John's faithful witness. When it comes to Jesus, we thank Him for so much more. He has done for us what none of the prophets and apostles could ever do.  May God help us to look away from ourselves to Jesus - to see Him as the Lamb of God, who takes away our sin. May God give us the strength of faith and love that we need to continue, in our day, the great testimony of John: "Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."
