"Solomon son of David established himself firmly over his kingdom, for the Lord his God was with him and made him exceedingly great" (2 Chronicles 1:1).
Before we read about Solomon's greatness, we read this about him: "the Lord his God was with him." Solomon's greatness did not come from himself. It was given to him by the Lord.
"That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you ... Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?” (2 Chronicles 1:7,10).
When we think about Solomon's great wisdom, we must remember this: it was given to him by God. First, there is revelation - "God appeared to Solomon ... " Then, there is response - "Give me wisdom ... "
As we read about the greatness about the greatness of Solomon, especially his great wisdom, let us never forget this, "Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised" (1 Chronicles 16:25).
