Seeing the big picture
“By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen” (Hebrews 11:3).
The Old Testament contains many stories. In Hebrews 11, we read about some of these stories of “faith”.
Beyond the many pictures of faith, there is the big picture – the picture of the eternal God, creating the universe.
We cannot take it in. It is too much for us. It is beyond our understanding.
“By faith we understand” – Having faith in the Lord doesn’t mean that we’ll ever achieve a full understanding of what he has done. It does mean that we’re able to see the big picture in a way that we could never have done without faith in him.
When we see the big picture, our life on earth begins to make sense in a way that it never would if we travelled through life, thinking that there were only questions and no answers.
We may not have all the answers, but we have been given enough, in God’s Word, to encourage us to continue in our journey of faith, believing that the eternal God, who was there at the beginning, will be there to meet us at the end of our journey.
