The Special One ...

The first chapter of the New Testament (Matthew 1) is full of names. The most important name is the first name – “Jesus the Messiah” (Matthew 1:1). The Messish (or Christ – the Anointed One) was the fulfilment of ancient prophecies. People had been looking forward to his coming. Now , he has come. This is the wonderful message Matthew brings to us in his opening chapter.
The name, ‘Jesus’ means ‘Saviour’:”She (Mary) will have a son, and you (Joseph) are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
Jesus was so much more than Mary’s Son. He is God’s Son: “the child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20).
Jesus was, also, given the name, “Immanuel”, which means, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23).
Let us praise the name of Jesus. He is our Lord. He is our Saviour. Let us thank him for who he is. Let us thank him for all that he has done for us.
