Thy Kingdom come

The Lord is King. There is no other king like the Lord. This is what we’re saying when we pray, “Thy Kingdom come” (Matthew 6:10). We’re saying, “Lord, we want you to be our King – the King of our lives. If we’re not really saying this to the Lord, we’re not really saying very much at all. We’re missing the point of the prayer, “Thy Kingdom come.” To pray, only, for something far away from us, we’re not getting right to the heart of what God is saying to us through the words, “Thy Kingdom come.” Yes – we are praying that God’s everlasting Kingdom will come in all of its fullness, but we’re, also, praying that we’ll be changed here and now.
