"On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified" (John 7:37-39).
What a great day it was when Jesus spoke these wonderful words. What an even greater day it was when the Holy Spirit came in power on the Day of Pentecost. There were "rivers of living water" that day! The Spirit was moving in power. He was bringing many people to faith in Christ. That was a day of great blessing - but it was only the beginning of even greater things. In every generation, the Holy Spirit has been doing the work that only He can do. He's been bringing people to the Saviour. Without the working of the Holy Spirit, no-one will come to the Saviour. The Holy Spirit shows us our need of Jesus. He leads us to Jesus. He shows us that, in Jesus, we have the perfect Saviour. The Holy Spirit comes to life in our hearts. Through His loving and holy presence in our hearts, we become "a new creation in Christ Jesus" (2 Corinthians 5:17).
