In Jesus' parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32), we read about love - persistent love. It's not love that comes and goes. It's love that keeps on going. This story could be called 'the story of the loving father.' The story is really about the father's love. This is what makes this story a Good News story. There's no good news in the son's running away from home. That's nothing but bad news. It could have turned out much worse than it did. What stopped the son's story from being an absolute disaster? It was the Father's love. Throughout the story, there is love - persistent love. We see changes in the son's life. We see him at home. We see him in the far country. We see him coming back home. Our life is full of changes. There are good times. there are bad times. There is one thing that doesn't change. It's the love of God. At the beginning, he loves us. All the way through, he loves us. Right through to the end, he will love us. This is love - persistent love. It's love that doesn't give up on us - even when we feel like giving up on ourselves.
