We were strangers ...

Who are we to dismiss other people as "strangers"? Do we not know that "strangers are only friends we've never met"? Where does love for the stranger from? It comes from the Lord. It comes from his love. We were "strangers" (Ephesians 2:19) - but God has made us his friends! God had every reason to turn his attention away from us - but he didn't. He loved us - and he kept on loving us. What love Jesus had for his first disciples. He said to them, "I have called you friends" (John 15:15). He called them his friends. He calls us his friends. Did they deserve to be called his friends? Do we deserve to be called his friends? No, they didn't - and No, we don't! Strangers become friends - "This is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes" (Psalm 118:23). God has made us his friends. Let us show his love to others - strangers can become friends, when the love of God is changing us and reaching out to others through us.
